Prabowo Subianto Declares Victory in Presidential Race
Unofficial Tallies Show More Than 55 Percent Win
Indonesian presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto has declared victory in the presidential race, citing unofficial tallies that showed him winning with more than 55 percent of the vote. This marks the third time that Subianto has run for president, having lost in both the 2014 and 2019 elections.
Subianto's victory claim comes as Indonesia's General Election Commission (KPU) is still in the process of counting the votes. A preliminary result is expected to be announced on the evening of February 14th, while the official result could take several weeks.
Despite the unofficial results, incumbent President Joko Widodo has not conceded defeat. He has urged his supporters to remain calm and wait for the official results to be announced.
If Subianto's victory is confirmed, it will mark a significant shift in Indonesian politics. Subianto is a former general who has been critical of Widodo's government. He has promised to take a tougher stance on corruption and to focus on economic development.
